How To Start A Spiritual Business

Want to become a spiritual business bossbabe?

It’s possible for you! And today I’m going to tell you how to get started.

But before we begin, here’s what I want you to know:

If the dream is in your heart, then you’re meant to pursue it!

I sincerely believe that we’re given certain desires on purpose. Meaning: we are supposed to feel those feelings (even if they are envy or desire) because those feelings will show us the path we’re supposed to walk.

If you’re at the beginning of your path here today, welcome aboard!

When I left my last corporate job, I knew that I was done with that typical 9-5 lifestyle forever.

But while I was very clear about what I didn’t want, I was not at all sure about where I was going.

When I first started The Aligned Life seven (!) years ago, I just wanted to write and share my (weird) spiritual views with the world. I just knew that I had to do it. I thought I could write a book and make money from that and I didn’t really think too much else about it.

While I’m very happy I took the leap, let’s just say that I’ve learned a lot about spiritual business the hard way.

But I’ve also learned that it’s true:

You can absolutely 100% build a spiritual business that helps people, changes the world, and makes great money–all at the same time.

I was a natural-born entrepreneur: always wanting to start new businesses even when I was eight years old. Unfortunately for me, there weren’t any entrepreneurs in my family and none of those ideas ever came to fruition.

But now that I do what I do, I think it’s really funny that deep down under the surface: I was always an entrepreneur. I just didn’t know it yet.


Whether you’re like me or not, there are lots of great reasons to quit your 9-5 and go into business. Here are a few examples:

1. Wanting to help people
2. Being tired of not being paid enough (or respected enough)
3. Not wanting to spend your one precious life building someone else’s business and bank account (instead of your own)
4. Not feeling like a good employee (This was me, although thinking back, my undiagnosed ADHD probably played a huge part in that!)
5. Wanting control over your finances, hours, location, etc.
6. Wanting to create a heart-centered MISSION (not just log hours on the clock)
7. Not wanting to work to simply exist, craving meaning
8. Just wanting to quit and do something else! (Sometimes, the call to spiritual entrepreneurship isn’t something that makes logical sense.)
If any of those apply to you, then welcome. At this point, you might be wondering: how do you start a small or home-based spiritual business? Where does one even begin?

Don’t sweat it! I’ve got you covered. This spiritual business quick start guide will get you started the right way.


A spiritual business is any business that A. makes money (business!) and B. operates from some core spiritual principles. Of course, this leaves a wide range of interpretations, which is great news for you.

Your spiritual business gets to look however you want it to! Don’t let what you see other people doing limit you in any way.

The making money part might seem obvious but I am emphasizing it for a reason. One of the biggest reasons I see the Spiritual Wantrepreneurs struggle or fail is simply because they don’t charge or don’t charge enough for their services.

In many circles, we’ve been taught that you can’t charge money for spiritual services. But by that logic, then every single tarot card reader, psychic or coach should work their normal job then work another forty hours a week for free. Even churches ask for donations! Don’t kid yourself that money never changes hands in spiritual settings. We simply live in a world where we have to pay rent and buy food. That means charging money isn’t sinful. It’s a necessity.

(That is until robot workers and Universal Basic Income step in to free us all from this messy capitalism business! 😝 )


Not sure where to begin? Here’s a non-exhaustive list of ideas to get your creative juices flowing:

  • Service-based business: tarot card readings, astrology, energy healing,
  • Coaching business: spiritual dating, wellness, money etc.
  • Jewelry designer
  • Blogger/ Influencer
  • Meditation teacher/coach
  • Holistic nutritionist
  • Health /wellness practitioner
  • Yoga/pilates/etc teacher/coach
  • Selling physical objects like candles, spell kits, crystals etc.
  • Psychic/intuitive readings/Akashic record reader
  • Human Design Reader/Coach
  • Moon circles/spellcraft/witch services (Note: you can’t legally sell these on Etsy!)

Note: I am sooooo not a fan of MLMs They are always pyramid schemes. Sorry! So I advise you to stay far far far away from those no matter what your salesperson/friend is telling you.

Still stuck? Think about what your friends and family ask you for help with. Or start asking them directly! (Sometimes it takes outside eyes to help see our talents clearly!)




In business, clarity is power. Confusion (for you or your customer) always equals lost business.

For you, that means only showing up to do the things that will actually move your business forward. When you don’t have a clear roadmap of what your business is or who you’re serving, I guarantee you will end up wasting precious time on doing things that don’t really matter. Ultimately, that’s taking money out of your own pocket and delaying your ability to help your future clients or customers.

Who are you helping?
What are you helping them with?

If you can’t answer these questions right now, drop everything and start journaling on it! Do not take another step until you’ve got this down.

Yes, this formula might change over time but the most important thing is to start somewhere.



Now that you know who you’re helping and what you’re helping them with, what’s your solution? And what do they get from it?

Try to fill in the blanks:

I help _______ with _______ so they can __________.

If you’re already a tarot card reader etc. you’re almost there. But even in those cases, I invite you to dig in a little deeper. What kind of tarot card reading, nutrition plan, spell kit, etc?

Even if you know what you’re offering, there might be a new (digital) way of offering your services.

So get creative & think:

  • Ebooks
  • Online courses
  • Coaching packages
  • Memberships
  • Patreon
  • Private podcasts
  • Paid YouTube classes
  • Facebook groups (This seems to be decreasing in popularity but it’s still an option!)
  • Communities & clubs
  • Even if you offer services, start to think about the future. In a services-based business, you are always limited by the number of hours you have in a day. For example, a tarot card reader can only do so many readings in a day! However, if you package up your service in a fabulous new way, you can sell the same thing to multiple people at once. (Example: tarot card memberships, tarot reading courses, etc.)



    Another crucial question to ask yourself is: what sets you apart?

    Remember, just because there are other psychics, astrologists, energy healers out there doesn’t mean there isn’t room for you!

    If you look around at everyone else and think: how is there room for me? Then you’re already heading down the wrong mindset path.

    In fact, there is room for everyone. Would a future doctor ever not go to med school because there are already so many doctors in the world? Of course not. We always need doctors. And whatever it is that you do, I assure you that we need you too.

    This planet has 7.7 billion people on it! And you can reach most of them through your phone. 🤯🤯 So it’s absolutely a limiting belief to think that you can’t get started because of what other people are doing.

    However, if you’re constantly comparing yourself to others then that energy is going to leak out everywhere (and your potential clients/customers will pick up on it).

    So don’t let that happen! Instead of looking at everyone else, get excited about you. You are a 100% original human creature. So what sets you apart?

    Think: style, age, geography, special interests. There are so many ingredients that create you. Most of us overlook all of this stuff and write ourselves off as “average”. So I challenge you to look a little closer and see yourself in a new light!

    Once you’ve got your basics together, it’s time to bite the bullet and start selling.

    Of course, there are a million ways to do this. Selling could look like creating a fancy sales funnel with automated webinars. Or it could look like simply telling a few people who you already know about your new services or products.

    In the beginning, my advice is always to keep it as simple as possible. Your number one goal is to create some sales simply because no sales = no business (and not reaching your ideal customers and clients).

    That could mean:

    • Starting your Instagram/ announcing your services to your existing followers
    • Putting up a Facebook post telling family and friends what you do
    • Going to a networking event and telling people what you do
    • Launching your website and posting it on social
    • Promoting yourself on Pinterest, YouTube, TikTok
    • Publishing your book on Gumroad and sharing it on social

    There are a few things to keep in mind here:

    Don’t overlook in-person opportunities!

    Your overall vision might be to have a digital business. But in the beginning, it’s typically much easier to look around your existing circles for people who you can support. If you’re starting a coaching business, that might even mean doing some coaching sessions for free in exchange for glowing testimonials.

    Social media can be used for sales! But not all social media posts are selling.

    If you’re posting pictures of your dog every day, don’t kid yourself that that means you’re selling. Yes, showing up and sharing your personality is important. But selling is crucial and no matter how cute your dog is, that’s not going to do it. If you’re already on social media, get comfortable with actively selling.

    Get ready to talk about what you do a lot.

    Yeah, we all think that as soon as the website launches or that when we put up our brand new coaching services page, we will be stormed by potential clients throwing their credit cards at us. Unfortunately, that’s not how it works. Most people simply skim through social media every day. That means that posting about your coaching package one time is simply not enough. You might think everyone’s sick of hearing about you but in truth, it will take a long time for most people to even notice what you’re doing.

    Marketing, social media, and the art of selling are huge topics. So yes, this part can definitely get overwhelming! So don’t go chasing waterfalls and focus on the most simple steps you can take to make your first few sales. You will change this process over time. So don’t worry about all the fancy stuff just yet. It will all come in time! In the beginning, the most important step is to simply get started and put yourself out there!

    Starting your small/at-home spiritual business can definitely be daunting. There’s a ton of information online and if you try to follow all of it all at once, you’ll definitely get confused and stop taking any action at all.

    So yes, this guide is basic but that’s all you need in the beginning: just the most crucial steps. As your business grows, there will be plenty of time to get creative and work on all the extras.
